Position Summary

EDUCATION ASSISTANT

TATUS: Part to full-time, dependent upon qualifications and availability
W
ORK HOURS: M-F; variable between 7:30am-5:30pm, dependent upon program; possible weekends WAGE: Dependent upon qualifications

An entry level position, the Education Assistant supports the implementation of learning programs and activities for Papahana Kuaola, in alignment with the mission and goals of the organization. This position will regularly take lead with education groups and programs, under the direction of ʻIliʻilikauhale Lead Educator. This position also supports the care and cultivation of ʻāina and the maintenance of equipment/facilities, in order to continuously develop ʻāina-based cultural knowledge and skills.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Supports development of learning activities and materials.

  2. Supports or leads delivery of learning activities and materials.

  3. Supports improvement of ʻāina and maintenance of equipment/facilities to organizational

    expectations.

  4. Assumes other responsibilities as needed and/or assigned by the ʻIliʻilikauhale Lead Educator.

Primary Qualifications

  1. Education: None required.

  2. Experience: Any experience indicative of a significant interest in mālama ʻāina and teaching

    through ʻāina and culture.

  3. Knowledge: Familiarity with Hawaiian history, culture, and resource management.

  4. Abilities and Skills: Enjoys working with children. Good communication and interpersonal

    skills. Ability to work efficiently, independently, and successfully as a member of a team. Ability to communicate at a basic level in the Hawaiian language. Proficiency with common personal computer office software. Responsive via email and text.

  5. Other: Position occasionally involves significant and sustained physical activity.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient in written and spoken Hawaiian language. Experience as a cultural practitioner and working with Native Hawaiian learners. A degree and/or training in the field of education. Additionally, the ideal candidate to this position exhibits most/all of the following qualities:
